What is the Washington Clean Buildings Performance Standard?
The CBPS is a statewide law requiring large and medium-sized buildings to improve energy efficiency and adopt standard operating practices.
Tier 1:
Nonresidential, hotel, motel, and dormitory buildings over 50,000 sq ft must comply with energy performance targets, Energy Management Plans, and O&M Programs (deadlines 2026 to 2028).
Tier 2:
Nonresidential buildings over 20,000 through 50,000 sq ft and multifamily buildings over 20,000 sq ft must comply by July 1, 2027. Implement EMP and O&M before applying.
